Peterborough Celebrates the Pakistan win in Style!
Peterborough: Green Flags, whistle's, Dhols, horns and BEEP BEEP!! We thought we were in Pakistan? The jam packed, bumper to bumper rows of cars had taken over the city centre of Peterborough today!
"It was fantastic as we were the underdog and suddenly turning it on in the big games. We knew we had some imaginative players. We knew if we restricted them to 140 or 150 it would be chaseable. Afridi's a match-winner and he was fantastic for us in the last two innings" Pakistan captain Younus Khan.
Shahid Afridi, man of the match in the semi-final, was again the hero, hitting 54 not out from 40 balls to steer Pakistan to an eight-wicket win.
Having chosen to bat, Sri Lanka lost star batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan in the first over and were soon 2-2.
Kumar Sangakkara's 64 gave them hope but Pakistan paced their chase well.
We were in Peterborough celebrating with all the locals of our home town! Pakistan Zindabad!
Dozens of supporters took to the streets - Celebrating Pakistan supporters were seen driving round the city centre waving flags and beeping their horns to mark the success.
"I am all in favour of people being happy and celebrating their team's successes.'' Nazir Khan (Councillor)
"I would expect more celebrations if Pakistan win on Sunday, but I hope that people do not cross the line and cause disruption to other people's lives'. Nazir Khan
"I would urge everyone to celebrate on Sunday, but not to excess." Nazir Khan.
